Julian Mayne

Julian Mayne has had a distinguished career in arts management, spanning music, theatre, opera, and dance. He was part of the team that built and managed the Winspear Centre and Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and led the design and installation of the Davis Concert Organ. He served as Executive Director of Fringe Theatre Adventures and the Fringe Festival (2006–2012) and taught Project Management at MacEwan University’s Arts and Cultural

Management Program.


After a decade of experienced leadership, Julian, as Executive Director of Arts Habitat Edmonton, has announced his decision to step down in 2025. His tenure marks a pivotal moment for Arts Habitat, during which he guided the organization in developing two new creative spaces for Edmonton’s professional artists: ArtsHub Creative Studios and ArtsHub Ortona.


With over 40 years of contributions to Edmonton’s arts community, Julian’s education includes music composition and piano at MacEwan, Arts Management at the Banff Centre, and training

in mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution. He has held leadership roles on numerous boards, including the Edmonton Arts Council, where he led a cultural delegation to South Korea.


Honoured with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his service, Julian continues to support the arts and community initiatives, most recently joining the Edmonton Pride Senior Group in the development of the housing needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors. He and his wife, Laurel Deedrick-Mayne, have raised their family in Edmonton and are now enjoying time with their grandchildren.
