Robert Wm. Smith

February 12, 1947 – May 20, 2021

It is with a weighted heart that I announce the passing of Robert Wm Smith. After a lengthy struggle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, he passed peacefully in the early hours of May 20, 2021. Along with myself, he will be mourned by his sons Bryden, Brenton, and Cyrus, sisters Bonnie, and Grace, brothers, Terry, and Kenny.

Robert’s passing also leaves a large hole in the lives of many others as he was embraced by my entire family, his many nieces and nephews and too many friends to list.

Being a political animal, he had an unwavering dedication to the Alberta NDP party. He was committed to numerous non-profit agencies such as the Edmonton Pride Seniors Group, Right at Home Housing, the Edmonton Food Bank, the Edmonton Fringe Festival, and many more.

His involvement with the homeless population reflected his big heart. His love of music, travel, social gatherings showed his love for life. He would often accent his loves with a touch of drama, which made him an exciting person to be around.

The more than 20 years that I was able to spend with him were exciting, full of life, and never dull. As my life partner and soul mate he will be sorely missed. A gathering is being planned for mid-September, provided Covid restrictions permit it. Further information will be posted on this site at a future date.
